Total volume sales of nuts are expected to increase throughout the forecast period, although they are likely to remain marginally lower than pre-pandemic levels by 2028. This will be mainly due to the slow recovery of foodservice, driven by changes in consumers’ lifestyle.
Although foodservice is likely to remain the key channel for nuts, retail volume sales are expected to marginally rise over the forecast period, mainly driven by the ongoing health and wellness trend. Many Japanese consumers were already interested in their health and wellbeing prior to the pandemic, but COVID-19 elevated their awareness levels.
