Ultimately, limited demand and continued competition from other industries and categories will lead to ongoing negative pressures, which is set to maintain only limited growth in total volume sales of nuts in the US in the forecast period. Even as sales of snacks are expected to face constriction from limited discretionary spending, they, as well as other packaged foods, represent a much larger market with stronger buying power.
Only slow growth for nuts in the US at the total category level, and continued climate change will force crop reductions throughout the forecast period. Producers struggling with volatile weather conditions and slowing growth in demand for expensive crops will be increasingly forced to look to alternatives, reflecting the difficult choices facing all producers of fresh food.
