According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the Brazilian agricultural harvest in 2024 is expected to contract by approximately 3%. A lower supply of pulses will impact prices for the industry, and the final consumer.
Brazilians are gradually reducing the habit of eating beans daily, amid cultural changes, advances in ultra-processed foods and rising prices. The reduction of beans on the national plate and the replacement by less healthy alternatives have consequences for food security and the population's health.

Pulses
This category is limited to leguminous crops harvested only for dry grains, excluding crops harvested green for food (green peas, green bean, string beans, etc), which are considered to be vegetables and are included in other vegetables category. Also exclude those used mainly for the extraction of oil (eg soybeans) and those leguminous crops such as clover and alfalfa, which seeds are almost used exclusively for sowing purpose. This is the aggregation of dry beans, peas and other pulses.
