Alcoholic drinks in Myanmar has experienced a robust recovery in 2023 as the pandemic has finally come to an end. On-trade sales have rebounded significantly in urban centres, tourist destinations, and stable regions.
In 2023, beer and whisky volume sales in Myanmar have seen a notable increase, with wine and RTDs also experiencing recovery in both off-trade and on-trade channels. This growth has been facilitated by an expansion in distribution channels and a rising interest in diverse alcoholic drinks among young adults.
Although much of the country’s population has traditionally been teetotal and rather uninterested in alcohol or drinking, attitudes towards alcoholic drinks are shifting in Myanmar and public opinion on the issue is increasingly polarised.
