The Uganda Investment Authority facilitates land acquisition for investors in industrial parks, contingent upon having a registered company, investment license, and comprehensive business plan.
A private member’s bill, the Alcoholic Drinks Control Bill of 2023, has been introduced in Parliament for its initial reading. This proposed legislation aims to regulate the manufacturing, sale, and consumption of alcoholic drinks, with a specific focus on prohibiting sales to minors.
The Parliament of Uganda approved excise duty of UGX650 per litre or 30% (whichever is higher) on opaque In compliance with Section 19A of the Tax Procedures Code Act, 2014 and Regulation 9 of the Tax Procedures Code (Tax Stamps) Regulations 2018, the public was informed that starting from 14th August 2023, the fee for a tax stamp for any other alcoholic beverages, whether locally produced or imported, will be UGX17 (excluding VAT), reduced from UGX35 per stamp. Fees for other designated products remain unchanged.
Over the forecast period, there is a strong expectation that more alcoholic beverage brands will transition to using recycled packaging as consumer awareness around sustainability grows.
