The post-pandemic era has witnessed significant transformations in the way in which Australian consumers shop for footwear. While bricks-and-mortar stores made a commendable recovery in 2023, there was no stopping the continued surge of online retail, with the Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) model thriving.
The landscape of Australian footwear is undergoing digital transformation, driven by the increased screen time and digital presence of younger demographics, including Gen Z and Millennials. Recognising the significance of these digital-native consumers, brands are investing heavily in digital channels, particularly social media, to enhance their online shopping experiences.
Growth in footwear in Australia is set to be driven by a fusion of sports and fashion that will go beyond mere functional aspects. Grassroots sports events will not just be about athleticism; they will cultivate a sense of community and an active lifestyle, leading to growing demand for versatile footwear that seamlessly transitions from sports to everyday wear.
