Sales of footwear in Italy are expected to perform positively in volume terms over the forecast period but sales are expected to decline in value terms (at constant 2024 prices). There is expected to be a further polarisation in the demand for footwear in Italy over the forecast period which is likely to influence the future performance of the category.
Sustainability is becoming increasingly important within footwear in Italy with players investing in innovation and new product development to create more sustainable products and processes to help reduce their impact on the environment. For example, Scarpa, a company focused on the production of footwear for mountaineering, trekking and outdoor activities, is involved in the “Life Re-Shoes” project, with it being a coordinator of a consortium of various international entities and which is financed by the EU.
Over the forecast period it is expected that footwear in Italy will see increased usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI) combined with Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies, which will progressively allow footwear players to create immersive and personalised shopping experiences for Italian customers. These innovative tools allow consumers to interact with products in ways that go beyond simple browsing of an online catalogue, offering an immersive and interactive shopping experience capable of increasing customer engagement and loyalty.
