Health and wellness trends, which include increased water consumption and improved hydration goals, are set to contribute to renewed growth momentum over the forecast period. Bottled water saw an off-trade volume decline in 2023, with many consumers switching to on-trade alternatives, such as soda makers and tap water.
With their large selection of (mainly carbonated) bottled water – including a decent and still growing selection of flavoured and functional water – Vöslauer is set to maintain its strong leading position in Austria, followed by Coca-Cola's Römerquelle. Frequent new product launches, including Vöslauer Flavour Plus or Vöslauer Sport Plus, are set to keep consumers' awareness and interest high, creating potential for continuous growth.
In the bottled water landscape, grocery retailers and supermarkets are by far the dominant retail channels, and this is not expected to change over the forecast period other than potential shifts towards on-trade channels. A wide range of bottled water brands sold in supermarkets at various price ranges, including flavoured, functional, sparkling, still and only slightly carbonated, surpass those other outlets, offering consumers a huge selection to choose from, catering to their personal needs and demands.

Bottled Water
This category is the aggregation of still bottled water (spring, mineral & purified), carbonated bottled water (spring, mineral & purified), flavoured bottled water and functional bottled water. Bulk bottled water is split out separately. It is defined as packaged drinking water – purified, spring or mineral – that is packaged in a container of 8 litres or larger. The bulk bottled water data types apply to Still Bottled Water and Carbonated Bottled Water but do not apply to functional or flavoured bottled water. Bulk water is classified according to the new Bulk retail volume and Bulk retail value data type regardless of channel of sale: bulk water sold via retail locations and bulk water delivered direct to a consumer’s home is included. Bulk water sold to institutions (offices, schools etc.) remains excluded.
