Value sales of vending (at constant 2024 prices) are predicted to gradually decline in Australia over the forecast period. The unit price of products sold through vending is typically higher than in other channels such as supermarkets and is lacking in terms of price promotional strategies regularly employed by convenience retailers.
New developments in vending can potentially reignite consumer interest and encourage greater spending through this channel. Some recent innovations include Cake Mail’s vending machines which dispense mini cakes in various flavours.
Local consumers are increasingly demanding healthier food and drinks in an attempt to improve the quality of their health and wellbeing, which is impacting spending patterns on snacks and beverages. As most vending machines are filled with soft drinks and snacks perceived as unhealthy, a shift in positioning can potentially help to encourage consumers to buy from this channel.
