Vending offers further growth opportunities in Hong Kong over the forecast period, offering convenience to on-the-go consumers, whether in high footfall areas such as near transportation hubs, or captive environments such as schools or workplaces.
In Hong Kong, vending has traditionally been used for packaged drinks and snacks as in-machine temperatures and conditions meant that the machines were ill-equipped to store other products. However, the latest functions of smart vending machines, such as better temperature control, and cloud systems for vending machine operators to better monitor product conditions within the machines, are creating new opportunities for brands to sell short shelf-life products through vending.
Since the Hong Kong Government implemented the Municipal Solid Waste Charging (MSW Charging) on 1 April 2024, vending has become a key distribution factor for how consumers obtain disposal bags. In line with the “polluter-pays” principle, the waste disposed of by all sectors in Hong Kong will be subject to charging based on the quantity.
