The only major player likely to remain in in-car navigation in the forecast period is Panasonic. Yupiteru, which accounted for over a third of retail volume sales within in-car navigation in 2016, despite not being the number one player, appears to have also withdrawn from PND.
Pioneer is expected to remain the leader within in-car speakers and in-dash media players in retail volume terms in 2024, and will therefore hold the leading share in overall in-car entertainment in Japan. The company was delisted from the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 2019 due to deteriorating management, and came under the umbrella of private equity fund BPEA.
It remains to be seen whether there is value in aftermarket in-car entertainment. The importance of in-car infotainment (information + entertainment) has increased along with the trend of CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Shared/Services, Electric), and car multimedia is now included within the overall design of a car.
