Over the forecast period, RTDs is projected to see slight-to-moderate total volume growth, with the on-channel outpacing the off-trade channel in these terms. The performance of RTDs could be accelerated by the owners of major brands pushing existing and new offerings.
Premium brands of RTDs like Tails (Bacardi Martini Belgium) may be able to tap into the growth potential of the category, provided consumers are educated on their proper usage. An improvement in the economic situation in Belgium would also go a long way to widening the interest in premium offerings.
RTDs is also expected to see a growing demand for premixes, which have proven to be especially in demand for casual or informal gatherings. As the demand for premixes is predicted to be robust, the significance of convenience stores and alternative channels like night-shops, colloquially known as the “grey channel”, is expected to grow exponentially within RTDs in Belgium.

RTDs
RTD stands for ‘ready-to-drink’. Other terms which may be used for these products are FABs, alcopops and premixes. The RTDs sector is the aggregation of malt-, wine-, spirit- and other types of premixed drinks. These drinks usually have an alcohol content of around 5% but this can reach as high as 10% ABV. Premixes containing a high percentage of alcohol of around 15%+ combined with juice or any other soft drink are included here. RTDs are usually marketed as products to be drunk neat, with ice, or as a cocktail ingredient. Fruit-flavoured, vodka-based spirits with an alcohol content of between 16-21% are classified here. Examples: Alizé, Ursus Roter, Berentzen Fruchtige, Kleiner Feigling.
