RTDs will continue experiencing healthy volume growth in Costa Rica over the forecast period, driven by their reputation as a convenient and flavourful alternative to beer and a ready-to-enjoy option for spirits. Tourists especially favour RTDs for activities like beach outings, tours, and golfing, appreciating their convenience.
During the forecast period, an increasing variety of large-format RTD bottles is expected to enter the market. With economic pressures set to persist, many consumers will continue to seek cost-effective options for entertaining at home.
Hard seltzers made with natural fruit juice and a clear base spirit are expected to gain popularity, as more consumers pay close attention to ingredient lists when selecting beverages. While reducing calorie intake will remain a consideration, many consumers - particularly those in higher-income brackets - are increasingly focused on clean-label products with simple, recognisable ingredients.

RTDs
RTD stands for ‘ready-to-drink’. Other terms which may be used for these products are FABs, alcopops and premixes. The RTDs sector is the aggregation of malt-, wine-, spirit- and other types of premixed drinks. These drinks usually have an alcohol content of around 5% but this can reach as high as 10% ABV. Premixes containing a high percentage of alcohol of around 15%+ combined with juice or any other soft drink are included here. RTDs are usually marketed as products to be drunk neat, with ice, or as a cocktail ingredient. Fruit-flavoured, vodka-based spirits with an alcohol content of between 16-21% are classified here. Examples: Alizé, Ursus Roter, Berentzen Fruchtige, Kleiner Feigling.
