The carbonates category is anticipated to continue posting positive growth in both volume and value over the forecast period, with cola carbonates expected to remain the primary driver. Despite already accounting for over 60% of category volume, cola carbonates are projected to expand further, supported by the enduring popularity of cola among younger consumers and the sustained efforts of major players like Coca-Cola and PepsiCo.
The dominance of well-known brands such as Fanta, Sprite, and Mirinda has firmly established orange and lime as the leading flavours in the non-cola carbonates segment. However, traditional post-Soviet flavours such as Tarhun, Dushes, Barbaris, and Buratino are experiencing stagnation, with limited development or innovation, as they face challenges in appealing to younger, modern consumers.
Private label in carbonates continued to develop in 2024, with retail chains such as AL Market and Bravo introducing affordable private label options as a cost-effective alternative to established brands. An example of this trend is AL Market’s Sweet Star brand, which has gained some recognition within the carbonates category.
