Off-trade volume sales of carbonates in Japan are projected to continue declining over the forecast period 2024-2029, largely due to rising health concerns. Many consumers are increasingly focused on adopting a healthier diet, which often involves reducing their intake of sugary foods and beverages.
In May 2023, the easing of COVID-19-related restrictions led many consumers to return to dining out. However, according to Euromonitor’s Consumer Foodservice data, the total number of transactions is projected to remain 10% below the pre-pandemic level in 2024, and by 2028, it is still expected to be 9% under the figures from 2019.
The Japanese packaged food and beverages industries have been witnessing a dynamic surge in new product launches, particularly in soft drinks, which boasts a wide range of SKUs and a rapid introduction rate. Japanese consumers are accustomed to the arrival of innovative products, prompting major manufacturers to continuously develop various new concepts.
