Unit price stabilisation is likely to bring more dynamism to demand for edible oils during the forecast period, although fluctuations in key categories (such as olive oil and sunflower oil) are looming. Overall, however, the price factor, combined with the competitive advantage edible oils has over cooking fats in terms of health and wellness perceptions, is likely to push demand in volume terms.
Two factors are likely to play negatively for retail sales of edible oils over the forecast period. One is the category’s ongoing lack of innovation (especially when compared to other cooking ingredients categories such as sauces).
While prices are set to stabilise, it is unlikely that they will go back to the levels seen before the inflation crisis. Persistently high prices and enduring consumer price sensitivity are likely to favour the further development of the private label segment in the forecast period, especially given private label’s flexibility in terms of pricing policies and promotional activity.

Please note blended oil that contain over 50% of one type of oil are categorised in that category, e.g. blended oil with 60% soy oil is categorised in soy oil; whereas blended oils with less than 50% of a specific type of oil are categorised in other edible oil. Includes: Pre-packaged edible oils products purchased by consumers through legally established retail channels. Excludes: Unpackaged/bulk oils, i.e. instances where consumers bring an empty container or plastic bag to be (re)filled with cooking oil. Example: Minyak curah in Indonesia.
