The stabilisation of edible oil prices, combined with a more positive economic outlook, is expected to boost retail volume consumption of edible oils over the forecast period. Other edible oils will remain popular, along with soy oil, partly due to its lower price compared to sunflower and corn oils, which have a limited supply and variety.
According to industry sources, private label options are expected to gain ground within edible oils over the forecast period. Private labels offer cheaper alternative compared to branded names, and consumers are increasingly attracted to these alternatives due to their affordability and good quality.
Over the review period, Mexico witnessed activity in terms of alliances, either among leading category players aiming to strengthen their presence, or with others outside of the industry seeking to enhance existing products, and this trend is set to continue in the short term. A case in point is the announcement, made in 2022, of the merger between Ragasa Industrias SA de CV, the owner of Nutrioli, and Aceites Grasas y Derivados SA de CV, the owner of brands such as Canoil and Cristal.
