Further growth is expected in edible oils over the forecast period to 2028. The premiumisation trend, which was prevalent during the review period, is expected to develop due to the introduction of products with added health benefits, including Huile de Colza, which is known to be effective against cholesterol and reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.
The Tunisian government is currently facing pressure from the IMF and World Bank to remove subsidies on all essential food products, including edible oils. The outcome of negotiations and the government’s response to the pressure will naturally determine the fate of subsidised edible oil and their continued presence in the Tunisian market.
Following two challenging years of the COVID-19 pandemic, an improvement in the consumption of edible oils in the foodservice sector is expected over the forecast period due to a significant increase in the number of foodservice establishments and the rising popularity of fast food, especially among young consumers. Also, as consumer awareness regarding the importance of healthy and quality cooking oils is growing, Tunisians are becoming more conscious of their dietary choices and are actively seeking healthier options, including in foodservice establishments where healthier and higher quality cooking oils will be increasingly demanded.
