The edible oils category is expected to see growth in both value and volume terms over the forecast period, but is not expected to return to the level of volume sales seen in 2021 by the end of the forecast period. The high price of palm oil products will still be the main obstacle to the development of the overall category.
Categories that are perceived to be healthier than palm oil, including olive oil, corn oil and soy oil, are expected to register positive growth in the forecast period, both in terms of value and volume. Consumers with middle to upper incomes will remain the key drivers for these categories, as the widespread rise in consumer health consciousness, which was bolstered by the experiences of the COVID-19 crisis, encourages them to pay greater attention to nutrition.
While Indonesia, like most major markets around the world, is seeing a notable health and wellness trend, it is not expected to witness a significant trend towards cooking methods that are perceived to be healthier during the forecast period. Indonesians really love fried food, a fact underlined by the trends seen in the consumer foodservice industry in the market in 2023.

Edible Oils
This is the aggregation of olive oil and vegetable and seed oil (which comprises of corn oil, palm oil, rapeseed oil, soy oil, sunflower oil, and other edible oil). Please note blended oil that contain over 50% of one type of oil are categorised in that category, e.g. blended oil with 60% soy oil is categorised in soy oil; whereas blended oils with less than 50% of a specific type of oil are categorised in other edible oil. Includes: Pre-packaged edible oils products purchased by consumers through legally established retail channels. Excludes: Unpackaged/bulk oils, i.e. instances where consumers bring an empty container or plastic bag to be (re)filled with cooking oil. Example: Minyak curah in Indonesia.
