Moving forward, the market for edible oils in Indonesia is set to benefit from continued demand for packaged palm oil, retail volume sales of which are expected to recover to pre-pandemic levels later in the forecast period. This will be largely due to the government’s decision to raise the ceiling prices for subsidised palm oil (Minyakita) in 2024, with further price adjustments expected over the forecast period.
Cuisine diversification, fuelled by continued urbanisation, has spurred the growth of cafes and restaurants in Indonesia, with an increasing number of establishments offering Mediterranean cuisine. Given that olive oil is a key ingredient in Mediterranean cooking, it has seen a notable rise in demand within the foodservice sector.
Other edible oils is set to experience slightly improved retail volume growth compared to the past five years, although its performance is still expected to lag behind that of palm oil, which is still in the process of normalising its market position. Despite the growing presence of corn, soy, and other edible oils in Indonesia, demand is anticipated to remain relatively stable.
