During the COVID-19 pandemic, many local consumers cooked and prepared most meals at home, thereby significantly increasing the demand for edible oils. Post-pandemic, many Israelis have returned to work and socialising outside of the home (though some continue some work-from-home activities on a hybrid or entirely remote basis); however, ongoing price sensitivity will encourage local consumers to continue to cook from scratch at home, therefore dampening demand for foodservice and impacting sales of edible oils through this channel across the forecast period.
Another major challenge for edible oils in the coming years is ongoing uncertainty in supply chains. The category has been impacted by several factors, including proposals for domestic governmental reform, the COVID-19 pandemic, poor harvests due to climate change, and a scarcity of raw materials due to the war in Ukraine.
The shift in favour of healthier edible oils will continue over the forecast period thanks to ongoing health and dietary concerns in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. This will drive local consumers toward olive oil and other increasingly popular oils such as coconut and grapeseed.

Please note blended oil that contain over 50% of one type of oil are categorised in that category, e.g. blended oil with 60% soy oil is categorised in soy oil; whereas blended oils with less than 50% of a specific type of oil are categorised in other edible oil. Includes: Pre-packaged edible oils products purchased by consumers through legally established retail channels. Excludes: Unpackaged/bulk oils, i.e. instances where consumers bring an empty container or plastic bag to be (re)filled with cooking oil. Example: Minyak curah in Indonesia.
