Although Portuguese consumers like to try new flavours and mixes of sauces and condiments, classic sauces, such as ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard will remain very popular. These sauces are often used for cooking, as are dry soups.
Lighter versions of sauces have yet to be well represented in sauces, dips and condiments, but they are expanding and becoming a dynamic part of the category. Product formulas in general have less and less salt and fat content, which is of great value to consumers, as well as the clear and quick identification of the Nutriscore classification, which will be increasingly visible on retail packaging.
In addition to the investment in new products, the shelf space dedicated to private label is also expected to expand in retailers. Private label lines are increasing in sauces, dips and condiments, and this should encourage consumers to opt for these products which are cheaper and present good value for money.
