Many new full-service restaurants are opening in different areas in the City of Buenos Aires and elsewhere in in the country. Argentina is seeing a strong emergence of spaces gathering gastronomic venues under one roof, with included outlets offering a variety of culinary experiences.
Independent full-service restaurants face more significant challenges to growth than are seen by chained outlets as the former continue to suffer a greater negative impact from declining consumption correlated with Argentina’s high inflation rates. Costs are rising, with price hikes seen in raw materials, services and rent, for example, and independent players have less flexibility than chained players to increase consumer prices without a substantial drop in consumption.
The development of franchises is also growing strongly within full-service restaurants, even though the investment required in many cases is greater than for other consumer foodservice categories. Many investors in the sector prefer formulas that are tested and well-known by local consumers, and which are already warmly accepted; these franchises offer the best business opportunity.

Full-Service Restaurants
FSR (full-service restaurants) encompasses all sit-down establishments where the focus is on food rather than on drink. FSR is characterized by table service and a relatively higher quality of food compared to quick-service units. Menus offer multiple selections and may include breakfast, lunch and dinner. Preparation of food products is often complex and involves multiple steps. NOTE: restaurants types catalogued in this segment refer to table-service only (outlets with a proper “full table service:” wait staff attending customers and taking orders at the tables). Outlets with “limited table service” are excluded from FSR. For example: outlets where customers order their food at the counter are excluded (even though the waiter will then bring the food at the table).
