Digitalisation will be key in driving the growth of home delivery services in the years ahead, especially among younger local consumers who are increasingly looking to carry out all of their transactions through their smartphones. Smartphones are ubiquitous in Spanish society, and the strong growth in ordering online seen during the review period is expected to continue over the forecast period.
Consumer attitudes in Spain are also shifting towards a greater concern for the origin of products, with a particular emphasis on local sourcing. Recent surveys indicate that Spaniards are willing to pay a premium for such products.
It is expected that the share of sales accounted for by home delivery and takeaway will continue to grow in full-service restaurants over the forecast period. A proportion of local consumers increasingly see these options as more convenient and better value than eat-in services, and in an uncertain economic climate, these factors will likely become increasingly important considerations.

Full-Service Restaurants
FSR (full-service restaurants) encompasses all sit-down establishments where the focus is on food rather than on drink. FSR is characterized by table service and a relatively higher quality of food compared to quick-service units. Menus offer multiple selections and may include breakfast, lunch and dinner. Preparation of food products is often complex and involves multiple steps. NOTE: restaurants types catalogued in this segment refer to table-service only (outlets with a proper “full table service:” wait staff attending customers and taking orders at the tables). Outlets with “limited table service” are excluded from FSR. For example: outlets where customers order their food at the counter are excluded (even though the waiter will then bring the food at the table).
