Expected rises in disposable incomes, increasing urbanisation, and increasingly fast-paced lifestyles are all factors which are expected to provide a tailwind to the growth of full-service restaurants in India in the forecast period, with dynamic growth projected in outlet numbers, and even higher growth in transaction numbers and current value sales. With the projection of the working population in the country steadily increasing in the coming years, the consumer base with relatively hectic lifestyles will also witness an uptick.
An emphasis on elevating the dine-in experience is set to emerge as a central strategy for driving offline consumption occasions at full-service restaurants over the forecast period. The proliferation of mobile internet and the growing popularity of food delivery platforms is also set to make it convenient for consumers in India to enjoy their favourite dishes in the comfort of their homes.
According to Euromonitor International’s Lifestyles Survey, fielded January to February 2023, the share of respondents who are intolerant or allergic to certain foods is about 18%, demonstrating that food allergies are prominent, and menu diversification is needed to cater to the specific requirements of such consumer groups, which will also allow full-service restaurants to expand their customer base. The most common food allergies are to gluten and soya, which is set to increase demand for gluten-free and soya-free foods in full-service restaurants in India.

Full-Service Restaurants
FSR (full-service restaurants) encompasses all sit-down establishments where the focus is on food rather than on drink. FSR is characterized by table service and a relatively higher quality of food compared to quick-service units. Menus offer multiple selections and may include breakfast, lunch and dinner. Preparation of food products is often complex and involves multiple steps. NOTE: restaurants types catalogued in this segment refer to table-service only (outlets with a proper “full table service:” wait staff attending customers and taking orders at the tables). Outlets with “limited table service” are excluded from FSR. For example: outlets where customers order their food at the counter are excluded (even though the waiter will then bring the food at the table).
