In 2024, hot drinks in Croatia is expected to register moderate constant value growth, but only marginal retail volume growth. While general inflation has eased, hot drinks is still under pressure, as key ingredients such as coffee, tea and cocoa continue to see price rises.
With prices still on the rise, coffee producers are responding by emphasising the quality in their offerings to maintain consumer interest. Sustainability is also becoming a focal point for both producers and consumers.
Local company Franck dd continues to have a commanding lead in 2024, accounting for over well over a third of value sales, due to its strength in coffee. Its nearest competitor local company Altanta Grupa dd is aggressively looking to narrow the gap and has made several acquisitions.
Supermarkets, hypermarkets and discounters (in particular Lidl) have gained significant volume share within hot drinks over the review period, at the expense of small local grocers.
Volume growth is expected to be higher through foodservice than retail in 2024l, partly supported by large number of tourists. In addition, the Sunday ban on shopping is drawing consumers to coffee shops on Sundays, particularly in tourist and urban areas.
