Uganda being a key coffee producer and exporter is still not being matched by the consumption of Ugandans. Therefore, there have been efforts to promote domestic consumption.
Generally speaking, hot drinks are widely popular in Uganda. Tea, coffee and other hot drinks have all long been enjoyed with breakfast, but nowadays it is becoming more common for them to be consumed throughout the day as well.
Around one-third of Ugandans live below the international poverty line of USD3.10 per day, a figure which continues to fall steadily.
Product distribution in urban areas poses few issues for hot drinks manufacturers and distributors and this is because there is very good transportation infrastructure in all of the country’s major towns and cities. Retail distribution in urban areas is also without major issues, while foodservice sales continue to benefit from a growing number of specialist coffee and tea shops, cafés and restaurants offering home delivery services in Kampala.
Over the forecast period, hot drinks in Uganda is poised for significant growth, particularly in coffee and tea consumption. This expansion is attributed to rising urbanisation and a growing middle class, creating opportunities for producers and retailers as more consumers develop a taste for hot beverages.
