Beer sales in Australia are expected to remain fairly steady over 2025, with similar growth to that seen in 2024 in total volume terms. This trend reflects changing consumer habits, including a rise in moderation or abstinence when it comes to alcohol, as well as increased competition from RTDs, which continue to attract younger drinkers.
Amid growing economic pressures and softening consumer demand, many Australian craft breweries are facing financial strain, with some entering administration or liquidation. In response, forward-thinking breweries are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence (AI) to drive operational efficiency and ensure long-term viability.
As Gen Z and Millennials make up a growing share of beer consumers, their preferences are increasingly steering new product development. These groups place a stronger emphasis on health, wellness, and mindful consumption compared to previous generations with this fuelling demand for low alcohol and non alcoholic beer options, as well as products with reduced calories and a lower carbohydrate content.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
