The inflation witnessed in 2022-2023 is anticipated to persist, albeit at a lower rate, during the early part of the forecast period, directly impacting the performance of the beer market. Halting any further decline in sales will require a robust recovery in wages and disposable income, along with a favourable summer season, which is a key period for consumption, as well as a more moderate increase in production costs transferred to unit prices.
Although the long-term growth trend of non-alcoholic beers was interrupted in 2023, primarily for economic reasons, this segment is expected to claim larger shares of consumption during the forecast period. Non-alcoholic beer appeals to new drinker segments and provides an opportunity for responsible car drivers who wish to participate in beer drinking occasions with their friends without the alcohol content.
Despite the challenges faced during the early 2020s, craft beers are anticipated to gain further ground in the forecast period. Smart marketing efforts at both the manufacturer and industry levels, coupled with a growing thirst for new tastes and culinary experiences amongst beer enthusiasts, are sustaining the momentum for a more diverse assortment in both off-trade and on-trade channels.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
