Beer in Singapore is expected to return to stronger total volume growth over the forecast period, with increasing sales anticipated for all beer categories. On-trade volume sales of beer are expected to see higher growth than off-trade in the forecast period.
Non/low alcohol beer recorded a fairly stable total volume performance in 2023, but saw an off-trade volume decline for the first time, despite receiving significant attention from players, mainly due to consumer spending caution. Previous high growth rates were driven from a low base, and were due to increasing demand for healthy products, which saw local consumers switch to non/low alcohol alternatives in an attempt to reduce their alcohol intake, especially with the annual no-alcohol challenges, such as “Dry January” and “Sober October”.
Within product innovation, packaging has become increasingly crucial in shaping how consumers experience and perceive a brand, serving as the first touchpoint in the overall sensory experience, which includes sight (packaging), smell (aroma), and taste (flavour). Brands are expected to focus on designing packaging that captures consumers’ attention by using bright colours, interesting designs, and engaging content.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
