Beer is expected to see volume sales stagnate in the US over the forecast period. The category’s lacklustre performance offered two bright spots at the end of the review period – non alcoholic and imported lagers.
As the shift of consumption from beer to RTDs slows, the relatively new threat of hemp-derived cannabinoid beverages continues to gain an expanded presence, moving into places that were not previously possible for traditional cannabis. With the continued likelihood of a piecemeal state-by-state legislative handling of legal cannabis and the greyer hemp-derived market, there is still notable potential for category growth.
Hope for a renaissance continues to reside largely in the low and no alcohol space in a variety of different areas. For non alcoholic beers, an increasing call for quality and variety is pushing experimentation with production methods, shelf stability, and marketing methods.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
