Even though alcohol is considered a luxury product in Pakistan, high inflation and frequent price hikes have affected the consumption patterns of these products. For example, demand for Murree Brewery’s Millennium Brew has fallen, transferring to the cheaper option of Murree’s Classic Lager.
Westernisation trends continue to notably influence alcohol consumption patterns in Pakistan. For example, Western media has played a significant role in normalising the consumption of alcohol in high-end hotels and fine-dining restaurants.
There is a demand for imported and premium alcoholic refreshments among affluent customers in Pakistan, being a consumer segment which is willing and able to pay a premium for high quality and a premium image. Merchants and retailers focusing on this area may thus find opportunities to present an assortment of international and high-end brands.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
