Beer in Vietnam will see a vastly improved performance over the forecast period, thanks to the continued development of the domestic economy and rising disposable incomes, which will lead to the revival of visits to on-trade establishments. While the stricter enforcement of Decree 100 is projected to have negative impact on on-trade demand in the short term, consumers are expected to adapt to the situation.
The forecast period is also set to see a growing demand for non-alcoholic beer, following the entry of Heineken 0.0 earlier in the review period.
Competition between Heineken Vietnam Brewery Co Ltd and Saigon Alcohol Beer & Beverages Corp (Sabeco) is expected to intensify over the forecast period, as the latter looks to recover the share it lost during the pandemic. Building stronger relationships with distributors will be key to boosting sales, especially modern grocery retailers, which are growing in importance.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
