Beer in Bulgaria is expected to develop positively over the forecast period, amid a more stable environment following the upheaval caused by the pandemic. However, off-trade volume sales will remain below pre-pandemic levels due to its maturity, adverse demographic trends and hence limited per capita growth potential.
Non-alcoholic beer will be the fastest-growing subcategory over the forecast period, driven by the increasing preference for non-alcoholic drinks, especially among young adults. At the same time, non-alcoholic beers retain all the benefits to health, such as trace elements necessary for the intestines and the immune system, as well as polyphenols, a powerful antioxidant.
With the expected improvement in Bulgaria's economy, notably the stabilisation of consumer prices and rising salaries, on-trade volume sales are expected witness robust growth. Consumer foodservice will develop positively and the trend towards high-quality and unconventional flavours will bolster the craft beer segment.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
