In Bulgaria, beer sales are expected to show modest volume growth over the forecast period, supported by the continued consumer shift towards lower-alcohol beverages. However, overall expansion may be limited due to the category’s maturity and rising competition from other lower- or non-alcoholic alternatives such as RTDs, cider/perry, freshly mixed cocktails, and wine.
Premium lager both imported and domestically produced is expected to continue gaining momentum in Bulgaria, driven by the growing consumer trend towards higher-quality alcoholic drinks. This is reflected in the rising popularity of brands such as Madri Excepcional, a domestic premium lager introduced by Kamenitza AD through a collaboration with Molson Coors and Spain’s La Sagra brewery.
Non-alcoholic beer is expected to remain one of the fastest-growing categories in Bulgaria’s beer market. The category continues to benefit from a broader consumer shift towards healthier lifestyles, particularly among younger adults.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
