The beer industry is expected to grow steadily over the forecast period driven by a combination of competitive pricing and better visibility. As the South African economy stabilises, beer is expected to see significant growth, primarily driven by the country’s large low-to-mid-income consumer base.
Non/low alcohol beers are expected to witness significant growth in South Africa’s beer industry over the forecast period, driven by the rising focus on health and wellness. As more consumers become educated about the health issues associated with alcohol consumption and the benefits of minimising or eliminating consumption, the demand for these alternatives is set to rise.
Manufacturers in the South African beer industry are set to continue investing in their manufacturing and supply chain operations, focusing on increasing capacity, optimising processes and adopting more sustainable practices. These investments will not only support the growing demand for beer but also help in maintaining competitive cost prices.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
