Total volume sales of beer are expected to increase over the forecast period, as inflation rates are set to stabilise, encouraging Chileans to increase their consumption levels both in on-trade and off-trade channels. In addition, new product launches focused on flavoured beer and lower alcoholic options are likely to influence consumers’ purchasing decisions, given their lower alcohol levels.
Similar to wine, competition between beer and malt-based RTDs could yield positive results, as the different and sweeter flavours of the latter have potential to captivate younger generations, before encouraging them to gradually move on to beer. It is expected that fruity flavours will be present in a wider range of flavoured/mixed lager, with lower alcohol levels another sought-after feature.
Demand for large cans (470-500 cc) is rising in Chile, with this format being very popular in drinks specialists. Larger cans have been present in different beer categories, with Anheuser-Busch InBev making a significant investment and Cía Cervecerías Unidas launching large cans for nearly all its brands.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
