Beer sales in Belgium are anticipated to keep declining over the forecast period. Several structural trends suggest that the category will not recover to previous levels, as consumers are consuming less beer overall due to health-consciousness, changing social habits, and increased competition from other alcoholic beverages, such as RTDs and aperitifs.
In 2024, a notable trend in the beer industry was the emergence of new players, particularly in the non-alcoholic segment, despite the long-standing tradition of established breweries. Brands like Force Majeure and Belgian Balance, specialising in non-alcoholic beer, have quickly captured interest with their focused offerings and high-quality alcohol-free options.
Over the forecast period, innovation in the category will primarily focus on two key areas: non-alcoholic options and flavour diversity.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
