In the forecast period, on-trade volume sales of wine are expected to continue to decline. The main reason for this is the significantly increased price level in the consumer foodservice sector, along with the aftermath of the pandemic, which has caused changes in the habits of Austrian consumers that are likely to prove permanent.
Sparkling wine is likely to leave behind the fluctuations caused by the recent unusually high rate of inflation and poor consumer sentiment and return to its positive growth trend in the forecast period. It will continue to evolve from an occasion-related drink for toasting to a versatile indulgence product.
In still light grape wine, the majority of the supply of non-alcoholic alternatives still came from foreign producers at the end of the review period, while Austrian winemakers were still not very involved. A very rare, and therefore widely publicised, launch was Mayer Alkoholfreier Gemischer Satz in autumn 2023.
