In 2023, consecutive heat waves over summer 2023 and heavy rainfall in spring and September had a strong impact on vineyards, leading to a strong decline in domestic wine production in 2023. This is set to impress upon the category performance in 2024.
Sparkling wine is set to outperform still light grape wine in on- and off-trade volume growth terms over the forecast period. This is only partly due to still light grape wine being a mature category with high penetration, unlike sparkling wine, which still has room for growth.
Still white wine is set to remain the largest and highest-value category within still light grape wine, but still rosé wine is expected to continue to post the fastest total volume and value growth. The penetration of still rosé wine is relatively low, leaving far more room for growth.
