The competition between local brands and imported ones has intensified in wine in recent years due to the constantly expanding variety of brands, especially in the modern channel. Locals are also becoming more educated about imported wine, which is often considered to be of a higher quality and to offer a better taste.
Argentinian wine remains the most popular imported option, ahead of countries that produce wine that is familiar and widely accepted by Peruvian consumers, such as those from Spain and Chile. Argentinian brands benefit from advertising and promotion at points of sale, in addition to receiving awards and recognition worldwide, which has helped to raise their profile.
The cocktail boom that has occurred in the main cities of Peru in recent years has contributed to greater knowledge among consumers about new varieties of drinks, as well as new flavours and combinations. This has favoured the popularity of classic and modern cocktails, where categories such as vermouth and other sparkling wine have benefited.
