It is unlikely that the juice category will be able to prevent continued declines in volume sales in Spain during the forecast period in the off-trade channel, given that the category faces, and will continue to face, a variety of challenges in the next five years. First, there remains the enduring perception amongst many consumers that juice is high in sugar, and therefore unhealthy.
As mentioned, juice faces a strong challenge from other soft drinks categories for key consumption occasions in Spain, such as breakfast. To combat this, brands within the category will need to persuade consumers to choose to buy juice over another drink.
Broadly speaking, the future trajectory for juice in Spain can be divided into two – with one trend for the off-trade channel and one trend for the on-trade channel. As mentioned, in the off-trade channel, continuous slight declines are expected during the forecast period in volume terms.

Juice
This category covers all still packaged juice obtained from fruits or vegetables by mechanical processes, reconstituted or fresh, often including pulp or fruit/vegetable puree. All unpackaged juices are excluded. Only still drinks are included here. Carbonated varieties are included non-cola carbonates. Juice-flavoured milk drinks and fruit shakes which are primarily milk are excluded–these are instead tracked in Packaged Foods Dairy. However, if the juice component is greater, the product is to be excluded from Packaged Foods Dairy coverage and tracked under the relevant category (based on % juice content) within Soft Drinks juice. This sector is the aggregation of 100% juice, nectars (25-99% juice content), juice drinks (up to 24% juice content), and coconut & other plant waters.
